After purchasing a brand new condo from a local developer, it didn't take long for our clients to realize they would need some professional help. The bones of the apartment were solid, and location of the unit was fabulous, but the empty gray + white space just felt sterile and cold. This was only heightened by the fact they were moving in with a rather minimal collection of furniture pieces that, when installed, just felt tired and mismatched....and soon after entered Grayscale.
After our first meeting, it was established that our goal was to aid in making the space much more cohesive, and most importantly to transform the unit into a place that actually felt like home. We started in the open concept kitchen / living area, adding a bold over-dyed rug to anchor the space and bring some color and character into the design. This was supplemented with natural and organic wood pieces, creating some necessary added warmth.
As a bit of signature touch, we also added an unexpected pop of personality to their powder room with the iconic Scalamadre "Zebra's" wallpaper in Silver. Transforming the small and efficient space into a magical experience for all who entered.
In regards to their Master Bed + Bath, our clients came into the project with a vision of an "oasis," reminiscent of the type of atmosphere you would find in a 5-star hotel room. So we opted to layer the space with luxurious materials and finishes, starting with a sophisticated creamy grasscloth, and a fully upholstered king bed in leather. Along with a custom wool area rug, and double window treatment. Accents of dark bronze and ebony woods anchor the otherwise light and airy pallet.
Finishing off the room with a stunning handmade Turkish pendant, giving the room a unique, artful piece to reflect the owners worldly travels.
We then carried this “tranquil” aesthetic into the master bath + guest room as well. The guest room possessed incredible natural light, so we knew this Harlequin wallpaper would be a show stopper in there. After landing on that accent wall, we sourced a beautiful bed with built-in side tables (to preserve space) from Restoration Hardware, and custom shades made with Romo Fabric. All of which channeled a calm, relaxing vibe in this cozy room.
Amidst this calm, natural aesthetic, we did have the opportunity to have a bit of fun with their toddler's bedroom - starting with a colorful accent wall featuring the darling Osbourne + Little's "Penguin Library" wallpaper. Paired with a space-saving blue bunk bed from Room & Board and playful accessories - the result was a room their son never wanted to leave.
